Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies shot one person and detained two others after a machine gun-wielding man terrorized a Rancho Cordova neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
Now, this could be another typical example of the news media calling a standard AK type rifle a machinegun, but let’s take it at face value:
Laws broken:
- Federal National Firearms Act of 1934 – requires all machineguns be registered, with the owner background checked and fingerprinted.
- California further requires a permit for owning a machinegun – these are rarely issued.
- California has banned most “assault weapon” style rifles on top of this.
Odds that this weapon was legally owned? Slim to None.
